A Donor Heart - or Death
Therapy cured Liz O'Donnell's cancer,
but damaged her heart. Now she waits in medical limbo for a transplant.
Last winter, when doctors didn't
think Liz O'Donnell would live through the spring, she went shopping for her

O'Donnell critical after transplant
Huntington resident Elizabeth O'Donnell is fighting for her life. After
undergoing successful heart transplant surgery Friday night at Lutheran
Hospital, O'Donnell had an angioplasty Saturday morning when her new
heart
failed to pump correctly. She is currently listed in critical but stable
condition.
The family requested no visitors at this time.
Diagnosed with breast cancer in 1994, O'Donnell's heart was severely damaged
after undergoing several sessions of chemotherapy. Successful in wiping
out the cancer, the chemotherapy weakened O'Donnell's heart to
the point where a
new heart has been required for her survival.
Placed on a national donor list, O'Donnell has been living at Lutheran
Hospital
in Fort Wayne for the last two months waiting for a heart.
